Thanks to its heavy picture artwork and tactile engagement with the music, vinyl is still making a comeback. Even tapes shaped like pens with rewind holes seem to be experiencing a resurgence in popularity (no doubt thanks to a cupful of nostalgia). So what about CDs, the last physical media to grace record store shelves?
Revo has relaunched its SuperCD music streaming all-in-one, packed with the latest smart features, in an attempt to bring the CD back to the center of our living space.
SuperCD has everything a music streamer in 2024 could ask for: Wi-Fi connectivity for Internet streaming; Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Deezer compatibility; and AirPlay availability. There is no information on whether or not it is, but all the major bases are covered, making it better than Apple's streaming solution in the long run. Bluetooth 5.1 is also included, allowing users to connect without using an Internet connection.
There are also more traditional ways to play music, with a variety of built-in radios: FM radio, DAB, DAB+, and Internet radio via a Wi-Fi connection; there are also physical connections, including a USB-C port, optical socket, and auxiliary input.
Most notable, however, would be the slot that bisects part of the device's wooden top: the CD player. As music streaming and downloads continue to dominate the music space, CD players are becoming a rarity.
Sound-wise, the SuperCD appears to be a powerful audio box, with a 40-watt Class D amplifier and two 3.5 radiators that promise “crisp, clear highs and deep, resonant lows.” The device can be controlled via a screen on the front, and there will be a dedicated app available for use with smartphones.
The RevoCD looks perfect for those who still have a large CD collection but want to start streaming music; stay tuned for a detailed review to see if the RevoCD lives up to its advertising claims. It is currently available for purchase from Revo's website for $649 in the US.
