The biometric login option for Google's Find My Device app has finally launched for users with the latest update.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Google was working to introduce a biometric login option for its “Find My Device” app on Android devices, and a recent report from Android Authority indicates that this feature is now available in the latest update (version 3.1.173 -1) has appeared and confirms that users can now log in using either biometrics or a PIN.
This is a feature that any user should enable once it is provided by the application. Currently, users can only log in with their password and can opt out of the need to log in each time with the “Don't ask again” box. However, this puts the phone at risk and makes it easy for someone to get into the app and change the device. The new option provides a more streamlined login option without compromising security. It should be noted, however, that if biometric login is not set up on the device, the password for the Google account must be used.
This is not the only change that is said to be brought to the “Find My Device” app. Apparently, Google plans to introduce a new layout for tablet users, which will not be resizable, but will move additional options to a new side panel. It is unclear, however, when this new layout will be made public.
Google has been working hard to improve mobile security with new anti-theft measures for Android 10 and new devices and more biometric security for other apps like Chrome. For example, Gemini Live has recently been made available to everyone, and Google Lens, which allows both video and voice searches, has received a major upgrade.
The addition of biometrics to “Find My Device” is great and arguably should not have taken as long as it did. However, it is proof that Google continues to try to make their devices more secure, which is impressive given the recent news that the Pixel 9 is already one of the most secure phones on the market.
