The Nintendo Switch 2 has not even been officially announced yet (Nintendo has only confirmed that a Switch successor is in development), but rumors are already circulating that the long-awaited next-generation console has been delayed.
For months now, rumor-mongers and industry leakers have been reporting that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in spring 2025, which coincides with the launch date of the original Nintendo Switch. However, according to a new tipster, the Switch 2 may arrive much later than expected.
According to a Famiboards contributor calling himself RandomlyRandom67 (discovered by Comicbook.com), the Nintendo Switch 2 did not go into full production in August as previously rumored. The user also suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2 will not be in full production as of October 2024.
On the surface, this may not seem that significant, but if the Switch 2 is not in production, the chances of the console launching within the first quarter of 2025 are seriously doubtful. Producing a sufficient number of units for launch would be logistically very difficult. In particular, previous reports have suggested that Nintendo is hoping to secure a sufficient supply of Switch 2 units to meet the anticipated launch demand. Nintendo appears to want to avoid a situation like the PS5 restocking.
In a glimmer of hope, FamiBoards users have noted an increase in component shipments, which may indicate that the Switch 2 will soon be in full production. However, if this report is true, the Nintendo Switch 2 release date could be pushed back to late 2025. It could even be a sign that Nintendo is targeting a holiday season release, like the PS5 Pro this winter.
The prevailing theory has been that Nintendo is trying to mimic the launch strategy it has taken with the current Nintendo Switch. If this is the case, an official announcement would take place this month, prior to a global release in early March (which is becoming increasingly unlikely). However, this new rumor casts doubt on this realization.
Of course, all of the above should be taken with a considerable grain of salt. After all, anyone can create an account on the forum and spread false information. Therefore, while it may prove that the Famiboards user is a legitimate leaker, at this stage we must submit this rumor as unverified.
This is not the first (highly questionable) Nintendo Switch 2 rumor to hit the Internet in recent weeks. Previous whispers have claimed that the Switch 2 is βin preparation,β and another leak may have shown the console's design and specs. Additionally, various industry analysts have recently claimed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in March 2025.
With so many rumors, leaks, theories, and speculations flying around, it can be a real headache to keep track of it all. That's why we have a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 hub, where we keep track of all the latest rumors. Of course, if there is any official news, we will tell you about that as well.
