As fall draws to a close, this weekend is packed with must-see movies and shows on streaming services.
Admittedly, the shows aren't the biggest draw this week, but there are some great options. For those living outside the U.S., the Australian reboot of “The Office” is coming to Prime Video this weekend. But Americans are not left out, either. The Apple TV Plus comedy-drama is no consolation, as “Shrinking” enters its second season this week. It's the real deal.
There's a lot of great movies to watch this weekend, whether it's new originals like Netflix's “Woman of the Hour” or newly added library films like A24's “MaXXXine,” which was a hit for Max. Plus, “Wild Robots” and “Alien: Romulus” are coming to PVOD streaming services this week, so if you haven't seen them yet, now is the time.
Here's a guide to the films to watch this weekend.
U.S. readers can skip this section; unless you have a VPN like NordVPN, you won't be able to watch the Australian reboot of “The Office.” But for the rest of the world, don't miss this new Prime Video sitcom. It certainly feels like the famous American version, but that doesn't mean it's a bad time. Our own Lucy Scotting has already watched the first few episodes and declares it “bloody ripper”.

“Shrinking” may be the best Apple TV Plus show you haven't seen. Created by legendary sitcom creator Bill Lawrence, it stars Lawrence, “Ted Lasso” star/writer Brett Goldstein, and Jason Segel, who stars as therapist Jimmy Laird.
In Season 1, Jimmy began telling his patients his true thoughts--and it had some dire consequences. It also drew the ire of Jimmy's colleague Paul (Harrison Ford). This season, Jimmy must deal with the unforeseen consequences while still healing from the loss of his wife. As dramatic as it may sound, watching “Shrinking” will surely make you laugh.

“Woman of the Hour” is Anna Kendrick's directorial debut and also stars the actress best known for her role as single woman Cheryl Bradshaw on “The Dating Game.” Cheryl's appearance on a 1978 episode of the popular TV show should have been a no-brainer. But when she went on a date with contestant Rodney Alcala, she made history. He was now a notorious serial killer who may have committed over 130 murders across multiple states. Don't miss this film based on an incredible true story.

Ti West's “X” trilogy has been a huge success, including this year's final film, “MaXXXine.” Starring Mia Goth as Maxine Minx, a porn star-turned-scream queen after deciding to appear in the horror film “The Puritan II,” “MaXXXine” is a film about the transformation of a woman from a porn star to a scream queen. However, since this is all set against the backdrop of the infamous “Night Stalker murders,” it is unclear whether Maxine will survive to get her big break.

The first trailer for Brothers looked upsetting. The film stars Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin as twin brothers with a sordid criminal past. Dinklage is trying to make one last score, while Brolin is trying to stay on the straight and narrow. Dinklage eventually takes him under his wing, and what follows seems to be a crazy road trip full of toilet humor, orangutans, and great acting. The supporting cast, including Brendan Fraser, Glenn Close, and Marisa Tomei, may be one of the most well-rounded call sheets of the year, let alone the week.

Now is the time to get into the Halloween spirit. Late Night with the Devil “star David Dastmalchian plays Jack Delroy, host of the late night show ”Night Owls with Jack Delroy.” The show was initially successful, but when the ratings began to decline, Jack was forced to take drastic measures. In a special occult Halloween episode, Jack attempts to summon the devil, but of course things do not go as planned.

“Wild Robot” is based on the 2016 novel of the same name. It tells the story of Roz (Lupita Nyongo), a Universal Dynamics robot stranded on a deserted island during a storm. She is accidentally activated by the local wildlife, and although rough at first, she eventually adapts to her surroundings. The animated film was a big hit with critics and has been a modest success at the box office. Be sure to see it before it becomes the talk of the Academy Awards.

While we associate the “Alien” franchise with science fiction, the original film is a horror classic. Alien: Romulus follows in that vein, the latest in the beloved series, directed by Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead” (2013)). In “Alien: Romulus,” set between “Alien” and “Aliens,” Cary Spaney, David Johnson, Archie Renault, Isabella Merced, Spike Fearne, and Eileen Wu are on a Weyland-Yutani research station with a terrible secret. They play a group of young space colonists who investigate.
