My favorite Prime Video show of the year was canceled after one season

The other day, with the news that “Heels” will be available on Netflix next month, I mentioned that almost everyone has had a show they loved canceled too soon That's because Prime Video has discontinued one of my favorite shows of 2024: “My Lady Jane”

Even if I admit that it was a bit of an odd choice to go steamy, given that “My Lady Jane” originated as a YA novel, I think the series is a solid addition to Prime Video's library

Unfortunately, Gemma Burgess' irreverent super-historical fantasy series was cancelled after just one season News of the show's cancellation was first confirmed by Deadline, just seven weeks after its June 27 premiere

According to the magazine, “My Lady Jane” simply “didn't find enough viewers While the film's run in Prime Video's top 10 was memorable, it clearly didn't have the staying power to fund a second chapter like “Fallout”

The film's success was not due to a lack of interest in the film, but rather to a lack of interest in the film itself Frankly, this sucks

I've already written one article in Tom's Guide on why you should stream “My Lady Jane,” but at the risk of being a bit repetitive, I want to emphasize that the show was a blast

It was a genuinely funny blend of farce, fantasy, period drama, and romance, and a lighthearted reimagining of the life of the main character, an English monarch The plotting royals vying for the throne, the infighting that erupts between human and animal shapeshifters, the dangers and deceptions

In addition, the drama boasted a breathtaking lead cast and a great sense of humor To make matters worse, the first season ended with the promise of more adventure, but we will never see what trouble Lady Jane and her partner Guilford Dudley (Edward Bluemel) are about to get into

I am not the only one who loved My Lady Jane The series currently has a 94% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the most well-received shows of 2024 on the site Like me, most critics have praised the series' playful tone and great lead character, and (judging from their comments) I'm sure at least some of them are also disappointed that we won't get to see Jane on our screens again

With any luck, a fan campaign (#SaveLadyJane / #SaveMyLadyJane) and/or a Changeorg fan petition to renew the show and/or another top streaming service will step in and save the show and someone I'm sure they will convince this show to give it a chance But if you have no choice but to find a new show to fill the void, check out Prime Video's list of best shows and our list of best fantasy shows to stream right now on Prime Video for more streaming recommendations
