One of the best comedies of the past decade made the Prime Video Top 10

When it comes to comedic films, I'm pretty hard to please Humor is a very subjective thing, and it is not always easy to find a movie that really makes me laugh out loud However, “22 Jump Street” is one of those rare films that made me laugh almost non-stop

A 2014 sequel to 2012's “21 Jump Street” (itself a feature-length reboot of the 80s TV show of the same name), the film, thanks to its fantastic lead actors, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, is a subversive plot and numerous gags that make fun of existence itself and the numerous gags that poke fun at its very existence

I count “22 Jump Street” as one of the best comedies of the past decade, and it is now enjoying a small resurgence, having made it into the top 10 on Prime Video So if you're looking for something to watch on Amazon's popular streaming service, here's why “22 Jump Street” is funny enough to watch again and again:

Set several years after “21 Jump Street,” police officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are back on the streets to stop a drug trafficking operation However, when a dramatic chase goes awry, the two are removed from their charge and sent back into the “Jump Street” undercover program

Investigating the rising popularity of a new drug known as “WHY-PHY” and the deaths of students, Schmidt and Jenko face their toughest undercover assignment to date As Schmidt adjusts to college life, he quickly becomes close to members of the football team, while Jenko infiltrates the scene of an art major's death in order to uncover new clues

As the case progresses and new evidence comes to light, the two become a little too caught up in their false identities and begin to question their partnership But as spring break approaches, they have one shot at finding the real killer, solving the case, and proving their brotherly love

One of the biggest problems with comedy sequels is that they are often derivative The Hangover Part 2 is a haphazard imitation of its predecessor and feels very lazy But “22 Jump Street” is the rare comedy sequel that is self-aware enough to laugh at itself

Throughout the film, there are countless references to the fact that Schmidt and Jenko have been in similar unmasked situations before (in “21 Jump Street”), and the film skips over numerous clever gags at the expense of repeated comedy sequels This very meta approach to comedy keeps the film feeling fresh throughout, even if the broad story structure is not new

Of course, any comedy film should be at least quite funny when two talented actors play the lead roles, and Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are just that I have to admit that before “Jump Street,” I was not a big fan of Tatum, but he had a natural talent for comedy, and the opening scene in which he impersonates a drug dealer named Jeff was truly an iconic scene for good reason I can still watch that scene and laugh

Thus, between the self-aware winks and the excellent comedic ability and chemistry between the two leads, “22 Jump Street” has everything a successful comedy sequel needs Add to that some well-presented action scenes and a predictable but enjoyable sense of mystery, and you have the perfect comedy package Plus, the spring break finale is perfect for the season and a great movie to watch in the summer

Prime Video subscribers looking for a seriously funny comedy movie should definitely check out “22 Jump Street” (though we recommend watching “21 Jump Street,” which is available for free on the Roku channel, first) This is because there are a lot of clever jokes in this film, and you will miss a lot on the first go-around

“22 Jump Street” is one of the most quoted comedies of the past decade, and I think that's an important measure of success in the genreWhether you saw it when it was released in 2014 or completely missed the sequel to this refreshing comedy, Prime Video Now that it's available and ranked on the most-watched list, I encourage you to watch it
