If you think the new iPhone 16 series is just a camera upgrade, you might want to reconsider An exclusive new report reveals all the changes to the cameras on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, as well as the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
According to AppleInsider, there are some pretty significant changes to all four models, starting with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus As such, our list of the best camera phones could soon see a pretty big shakeup
As previously reported, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature dual cameras like the iPhone 15 series, but stacked vertically to enable spatial video recording This will allow for 3D video using the Meta Quest 3 headset or Apple Vision Pro
The main camera has a 48 MP resolution and f/16 aperture, which is equivalent to a 2x telephoto zoom However, the ultra-wide camera aperture will be changed from f/24 to f/22 This improves low-light performance, which is good because the Pixel 9 series has so far proven to be even better than the iPhone 15
Another tidbit is that both the regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are said to support macro photography
In addition, Apple Insider reports that the rumored capture button will be on all four new iPhone 16 models This capacitive button will be located in the lower right corner of the design, which means that the button will be positioned directly below the index finger in the upper right corner when held in landscape orientation
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg previously reported how this Capture button will work Half-pressing the Capture button allows you to autofocus, pressing it all the way down allows you to take a picture, and sliding your finger along the button allows you to zoom in and out
For those willing to spend a little more, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to have some camera upgrades as well
Both models will feature a 48MP wide sensor with an f/178 aperture and 122 micrometers of pixels The biggest change is said to be that the regular iPhone 16 Pro will feature the same 12MP tetra prism 5x zoom lens that was previously reserved for the iPhone 15 Pro Max This lens has an aperture of f/28
Even better The ultra-wide camera on the new iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will be 48 MP instead of 12 MP, so you'll get great detail even when cropped; according to AppleInsider, 07 micrometer pixels at full resolution, 14 micrometer pixels in quad-pixel mode with pixel binning It is only speculation, but Apple may extend ProRAW support to ultra-wide lenses as well
On the video front, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max may support 3K video at 120 frames per second, complete with Dolby Vision
Adding support for a potential new format called JPEG-XL, the iPhone 16 series could have a significantly improved camera compared to the iPhone 15 This means that Apple may not be willing to put all its hope in Apple Intelligence to make the upgrade
