Earlier this week, we heard from Mark Garman that Apple plans to enter the world of robotics with a product designed to “solve first-world problems” In addition to that, Garman claims that Apple could leverage generative AI to create new “personalities” for robotic devices, like Siri, but made specifically for any robotic device Apple builds in its labs
According to them, this would not replace Siri, but rather be like a sibling AI “While Siri is Apple's current digital assistant on devices, the company is working on another human-like interface based on generative AI,” Garman said” I'm told it could run on tabletop products or other future Apple robotic devices”
The tabletop device Garman is referring to here is believed to be the first robotic device Apple is developing Codenamed “J595,” the device is said to be based on a camera and robotic actuators
However, many details about these machines or what they will be able to do are still unknown The only thing we do know is that they are designed to complement the existing Apple ecosystem of phones and computers That said, Siri probably isn't going anywhere With a whole new subsection of Apple's ecosystem, it makes more sense to develop a bespoke AI assistant than to jerry-rig Siri to work with everything, as long as Siri and Siri can communicate
The question is whether this new AI assistant will run on ChatGPT, like the chatbot feature coming to Apple Intelligence later this year, or whether Apple will develop its own chatbot Given that the development of the robot seems to be in the very early stages, it makes sense for Apple to push for its own service rather than relying on third parties for yet another new product
These products are still a long way off, much less being released Nevertheless, we are sure to hear many rumors and leaks in the coming months and years
In the meantime, an Apple event is set to take place on September 9, where the iPhone 16 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 will be announced The robots may not appear anymore, but at least Apple is giving us plenty to look forward to
