Google Pixel 9 Pro XL Owners Report Charging Problems - Here's What You Need to Know

Whenever a new smartphone is released, glitches and other hardware issues surface, and while reviews of the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL have been generally positive, not all owners of this smartphone are having a great time with their new device

Our sister site Tech Radar found a number of reported issues with the Pixel 9 Pro XL, finding specific problems involving wireless charging and a camera tilt bug during video recording

Wireless charging seems to be the subject of most Pixel 9 Pro XL complaints, with reports coming from the Pixel Phone help forum (via 9to5Google) and the Pixel subreddit (via Tech Issues Today)

Reports of wireless charging issues are not focused on a single problem Rather, there are various reports of overheating during charging and of charging stopping all together after only a few minutes

“The [Pixel 9 Pro XL] starts charging, displays the approximate time to full charge, and then stops charging in seconds,” one forum member reported

From these reports, it is unclear whether the cause is the charger itself or the phone, but some have tried several different MagSafe cases and chargers

On Reddit, someone claimed to have spoken with Google and they were told it is a “known bug” the company is looking into Google has not officially said anything about a charging bug involving the new model

Wireless charging, while more stable than before and usually better in terms of battery life, may be less reliable than wired charging Nevertheless, the reported problems seem to go beyond unreliable wireless charging

One reported camera issue is that the camera tilts when attempting to zoom in while recording video; according to a report on Reddit (via Android Authority), the image does not seem to stay level while zooming

It is unclear how widespread the problem is, and anecdotal reports suggest that the tilt may appear intermittently or periodically by users It may be a problem that Google can fix with a software patch, or it may be user error

Google is not the only phone manufacturer to experience problems with new phones after launch; the iPhone 15 experienced overheating issues commonly seen with smartphones in general Some owners of some models of last year's Pixel 8 felt dimples and bumps in the display When Samsung's Galaxy S24 was introduced earlier this year, there were reports of an uneven effect appearing on the screen
