Nym Technologies, a Mixnet startup, has announced a premier VPN contender that aims to completely hide user details and protect their privacy
NymVPN is currently in beta development and uses zero-knowledge encryption during sign-up This means that users can sign up for the service without disclosing any personal information, which Nym Technologies calls it “the world's most private VPN”
The VPN itself also runs on a distributed mixnet, which not only protects against metadata tracking and surveillance, but also anonymizes the user's identity and payments
Nym Technologies says of NymVPN's privacy in a press release: “Unfortunately, the majority of VPNs, despite their name and promises, do not actually protect our privacy All that is needed for an advanced data tracking system is to analyze the data going in and out of the VPN's centralized servers and determine who is doing what"
[8While this is a promising start, it remains to be seen if it will make the list of most secure VPNs
Beta tests are available for two different modes of NymVPN: “fast” and “anonymous”; in the words of Nym Technologies, “fast” is for “speed-first users” and “anonymous” is “beyond all traditional VPN protection beyond all traditional VPN protections”
fast mode
While fast mode routes traffic through two servers (similar to how NordVPN and others implement dual VPNs), anonymous mode routes through five servers and uses Tor-based Onion encryption as well as adding network noise (technology that makes it difficult to track data on what you are doing online)
Because it is in beta testing, NymVPN is currently open for free testing If you would like to try either mode, you can sign up here
