I still remember seeing "Edge of Tomorrow" in theaters more than a decade ago Based on its generic name (later changed to equally bad "live" die! Repeat "for that home media release), my expectations were pretty low But I was blown away by this sci-fi movie, blending blockbuster action and riveting stories  

To this day, I rank it as the best sci-fi action thriller film of the last decade, and one of the best in the entire genre I love all things sci-fi, so everything is not a small compliment This great movie was just added to Netflix this month (and has already soared to No 10 in the Netflix top 2), and now you missed it for the first time

To be clear, "Edge of Tomorrow" is one of the movies that's so good that you know less before you watch it, but it's limited time to watch the movie and If you need a little convincing before adding this flick to your watchlist, here are all the details you need to know about this awesome new feature in Netflix movies

Like many sci-fi action movies, "Edge of Tomorrow" opens on a vaguely futuristic planet thrown into chaos by alien invaders 

In this film, our planet is overrun with nightmarish creatures known as imitators, but all hope is not immediately lost after a major victory for humanity in the Battle of Verdun in a planned further offensive push to Europe 

Following this major William Cage (Tom Cruise) finds himself reluctantly fighting on the front lines after being stripped of his rank for cowardice The moment he sets foot on the battlefield, Cage is killed by a copycat, but suddenly wakes up on the morning of the day he dies 

Cage is stuck in a loop of time and is forced to re-experience the same day and his death over and over again Desperate to escape from this terrible fate, he just tracks down Sergeant Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), who may be the only person he can break free from the loop, and can also defeat the imitation for good 

I've always enjoyed any sort of fiction, including time loops, so it's no wonder that the core premise of "Edge of Tomorrow" instantly hooked me But just a good concept does not mean anything if it does not run well, and in this case, the "edge of tomorrow" absolutely does not mean that Doug will try to pull it off-Director Liman crafted an oiled sci-fi film and the best entry in his filmography to date 

I see Cage trying to get his head around a strange situation that found himself, and it's fun to see how the loop plays a little differently every time, but when things get into gear, "Tomorrow's edge" really starts to raise the stakes and some of the later action sequences are on the edge of your seat  

Cruz and Brandt also prove to be the perfect major pair for such films Cruz's action chops are well established — the actor is definitely the last true movie star - but Brandt manages to catch up with him, and in Rita Vrataski has a role that really makes her shine The duo also have solid chemistry with plenty of sarcastic jokes and just the right amount of romantic tension 

"Tomorrow's Edge" also manages to circle back to itself in a finale that feels both well-earned and logically consistent This is not always the case with time-loop novels As I enjoy movies, shows and video games that involve repeating the days when many of them struggle to come to satisfactory conclusions, and I end up very strongly

I'm certainly not the only one thinking that "Edge of Tomorrow" is one of the best sci-fi action movies of the past few years The film currently has a score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, with ratings as high as 90%

In a 2022 review, Jake Cole of Slant Magazine wrote, "Doug Liman's sci-fi action thriller is one of the 10 most enjoyable American blockbusters of the previous 1 yearKevin Maher of the London Times labeled it the smartest blockbuster of the summer season, or perhaps the summer season"

David Edelstein of Vulture called it "re-imagined 'Groundhog Day' as a sci-fi war game" 

If you're looking for a little mid-week excitement, you don't want to skip the "Edge of Tomorrow""More than a decade after its release, I struggled to find another film with the same perfect mix of action-thrills and mind-bending sci-fi storytelling Throw in 2 leads that are very well cast, and it's a movie package that's pretty hard to beat 

Its arrival on Netflix is a perfect chance for even more people to watch it — it did moderately well at the box office back in the summer of 2014, but it's a blockbuster, so add it to the top of your watchlist and it deserves a high spot
