OpenAI Releases New Sora Video - Its Human Realism is Stunning

OpenAI has released two new “Sora Showcase” videos by professional creators on YouTube These showcase the amazing potential of the yet-to-be-released Sora AI video model

Sora was first announced in February, but due to concerns about the time, cost, and potential for false alarms in its generation, OpenAI has only released it to a select group of creators

Since Sora was announced, two new Chinese AI companies have released “almost Sora-level” models, including MiniMax and Kling A more established startup, Runway, has also released Gen-3, which is very close to the Sora we saw

Both new videos shared on YouTube show the consistency and realistic movement of Sora's impressive character This was seen from the beginning, but also matched by Runway, Luma Labs, and others with new models

One of the new Sora videos by Singaporean artist Niceaunties explores the concept of aging Another, by British-Korean artist David Sheldrick, explores fashion and modeling

Both videos combine complex movement, costume changes, and the need for consistent character Both videos also show that Sora is capable of generating incredibly realistic figures

The problem with evaluating Sora's capabilities against readily available models is that we cannot see the worst of them We don't know how many terrible videos are produced for every good one, with deformed limbs, merged bodies, and random hallucinations

So far, access to Sora has been restricted to filmmakers, artists, and other creative professionals, and all we have seen (for the most part) are finished products after failed attempts have been discarded In these new clips, we see hints of where Sora might struggle, but it is the same place as Runway Gen-3, Luma Labs Dream Machine, and Kling: complex human movement

Open AI is releasing showcase videos of Sora every few weeks, later this year and early next year, to showcase various aspects and features of the AI video model The public release will probably be after the US presidential election

Nikean's video is described as “an art project about aging, beauty, freedom and fun, and an attempt to understand 'granny culture The artist describes Sola as an architectural designer by day, “working with another human being” who “blurs the line between reality and illusion” and creates incredible works that make one question what is real

The creator writes “What excites me most is the 'humanity' of the characters, especially their facial expressions and the emotions they convey These visuals have the immense potential to create a strong emotional connection and can be an incredibly powerful communication tool I also learn from the way Sola interprets the prompts I like to be constantly learning as I create”

For David Sheldrick, a graduate of the London College of Fashion and a professional fashion photographer, it was using Sora to return to his early work as a backstage photographer for fashion shows [Sora is most powerful when creating new worlds and new physics It was a true 'we've arrived' moment, especially when creating humans and how real it can be We have used many different AI tools, but nothing yet has come close to Sora's realism”
