At this point, it is almost 100% certain that Meta is developing a low-cost virtual reality headset called Quest 3S An overwhelming number of leaks and rumors have led us to believe that it is happening Adding to the credibility of these rumors is the latest leak, which actually comes from Meta itself
First spotted by UploadVR and shared by a Reddit user, images of a VR headset that looks like a cross between the company's Quest 2 and Quest 3 devices appeared in the Windows Meta Quest Link PC software Yes, this is a first-party Meta app, and the company appears to have leaked their headset prematurely
Presumably, Meta was planning to announce the Quest 3S at the Connect event starting September 25
The headset, which appears to be the Quest 3S, is slightly different from the current Quest 3, especially in the design of the front-facing camera Instead of the pill-shaped camera cut seen on current headsets, what is speculated to be the Quest 3S has two sets of three lenses clustered on the front of the device
The headset strap, however, appears little changed from the Quest 3
Interestingly, one X user noted that third-party accessories are already available for the Meta Quest 3S, raising the possibility that a headset is forthcoming
Earlier rumors suggested that the Quest 3S would retail for around $300 To achieve that low price, some speculate that Meta will ship the headset without a controller, which would be a bold move since the controller is a core part of many of the best VR experiences That said, Meta has recently added gesture controls to its headsets, so controllers may not be as necessary as they used to be
