I love Sonos equipment, including the Sonos Era 300 speakers and their amazing Spatial Audio, the Sonos Arc and its comprehensive TV sound, and the recently released Sonos Ace headphones
What I don't like so much is the current state of the app I have not used the app on my Sonos devices since I dropped all my devices and forgot my Tidal password Since then Sonos has done a lot of damage trying to make the app more user friendly
I hope you are not looking forward to seeing the rumored Sonos set-top box anytime soon; Mark Gurman reports that it has been delayed so Sonos can focus on making sure the app works
Sonos had a strange roller coaster experience in 2024 The redesign of the app failed like a lead balloon, but then the excellent Sonos Ace headphones were launched
Unfortunately, and possibly because of the app, these did not sell as well as Sonos had hoped, and users became increasingly frustrated with the app To support the new headphones, Sonos redesigned and messed up the app
This development was unexpected, removing important features such as alarms and timers, and generally slowing the app's ability to connect to existing speakers, frustrating long-term users who have invested in the company's connected audio product ecosystem
Sonos is devoting all of its resources to a solution so that the app can be fixed It appears that a solution has not yet been found, as the problem remains months after its initial release Sonos' stock price has reportedly fallen 32% since the beginning of this year, which could be the audio giant's downfall in real time
Sonos has a lot of work to do to regain the trust of users, old and new Because if the software that runs it doesn't work, who would want to buy a new one?
