PS5's UI gets a major overhaul with new system update - changes include

Sony has confirmed the latest details of the PS5 system update, and it is set to be one of the most important in the console's nearly 4-year history, adding major UI upgrades along with additional features and improved user experience1

As confirmed on the PlayStation Blog, this new PS5 system software update adds a welcome hub, as described as "a new personalized space with customizable widgets and backgrounds on the PS5 home screen" It replaces the Explore tab and is designed to be checked first every time you launch the PS5 console

There are various widgets available at startup including how to quickly check your console storage, your controller and accesses

You can place these widgets as you like and Welcome Hub can be further customized with various animated backgrounds Customize This is probably the closest PS5 will allow custom themes, so be sure to take advantage of it

Welcome hub will be released in a gradual global rollout It is set to be available to select owners of PS5 in the US starting today (Sept 12), before rolling out further over the next few weeks It will also first expand beyond the United States to Japanese players, then to selected European countries, and later to the rest of the world

Another flagship feature added in the latest PS5 system update is Party Share1 With this feature, you can generate a QR code that you can share with any messaging or social media app, even if you haven't added it to your friends list, ps5 This feature will be rolled out in stages

After the beta testing period, a personalized 3D audio profile will be available to all PS5 owners in the coming weeks This allows you to create a bespoke audio profile for your hearing characteristics using a PS5-compatible headset or set of earbuds

This PS5 system update also allows you to enable remote play for individual users and allows you to select who can connect remotely to the PS5 console

This update also adds adaptive charging This power saving feature adjusts how long the controller is powered via USB-C based on the current battery level However, this charging upgrade is only available on PS5Slim and PS5Pro models Sorry, start PS5 owners!

This latest PS5 system update is currently being rolled out, so before you sit down for the next PlayStation gaming session, check to see if it's available in your area and in case you (somehow) miss it, Sony also announced the PS5Pro this week, and we'll be happy to help you PS5Pro has all the details including a complete PS5Pro pre-order guide to help you protect your console this holiday season
