If you're a reader of Tom's Guide, you probably have one of the best phones on hand to enjoy the best Netflix shows on the go But as evidence mounts that people are holding onto their phones longer than ever, it is necessary to point out when older devices are no longer supported by the service
And now Netflix and some older iPhones and iPads are doing so The streaming service has confirmed that it will no longer support iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 Devices running the Netflix app on either of these operating systems will receive the following warning: “We have updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, please install iOS 17 or later”
The following warning appears
To be clear, this does not mean that Netflix will suddenly stop working on older devices, but rather that the version of the app will no longer support future updates, bug fixes, and security upgrades Unfortunately, at some point the app may stop working altogether, in which case those who want to continue using the app will need to upgrade to iOS 17 or, if that is not possible, to newer hardware
As mentioned above, some Apple devices cannot be updated to iOS 16 or later due to hardware limitations Owners of these devices will need to purchase new devices And conveniently, pre-orders for the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro will begin today, Friday, September 13

The iPhone X was announced in September 2017 and released later that November It was declared a “vintage” product by Apple earlier this year, meaning it is no longer supported by the company
By 2026, the product will be considered “obsolete” and Apple will no longer provide any support This means that if you are still using these devices, not only will you no longer be able to watch Netflix, but Apple Stores and service providers will no longer offer repairs If you are an iPhone X user, we recommend upgrading in the near future
If you're on the fence about upgrading your next iPhone to either the iPhone 16 or 16 Pro, here's which one the editors would buy with their own money
