The latest iOS 181 beta accidentally disabled one of the key features

With the launch of iOS 18 scheduled for Monday, the iOS 18 developer and public betas are winding down However, the iOS 181 beta, which is currently the only way to test Apple Intelligence features on the iPhone, is still in development, and a major new bug has been discovered

Several users running iOS 181 beta 3 (via 9to5Mac) have reported that Siri no longer working, they report on various forums, including Reddit's r/iOSBeta When they try to invoke the digital assistant, they receive a pop-up saying that Siri is unavailable and that they need a Wi-Fi connection to complete the download However, even with a Wi-Fi connection, this update is not executed and Siri remains unavailable

My own iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 181 also displayed this popup However, this pop-up appeared only once (so I cannot show you a screenshot) and I can still access the renewed Siri as before

The cause of this bug is not clear, and restarting the iPhone does not seem to help Hopefully Apple will be able to fix this soon, as this is still a beta and issues like this are to be expected

While this issue might make users uncomfortable, the good news is that Apple has one more month to release iOS 181 parts of Apple Intelligence, such as Genmoji image generation and Siri's ability to complete in-app actions and others may not go live for another six months, but the basic package of Apple Intelligence features should start rolling out in October
