iPadOS18 was launched today (9/16) and features some of the best new features for iPad that support the operating system
iPad-specific features include a new handwriting tool for the calculator app, which is finally available for Ipad Smart Scripts For Notes is another new handwriting tool that combines the best aspects of physical handwriting and text iPadOS18 also has many of the same features as iOS18 available, including a more customizable home screen, an updated control center, and a floating tab bar for certain apps
Below we will detail some of the key features to download iPadOS18 for iPad and try it first
Before we go any further, we need to know if iPadOS18 is compatible with iPad Here is a list of all compatible iPads
Before installing the beta, be sure to back up your iPad in case something goes wrong and you need to go back to iPadOS17
All that is done, this is how you download iPadOS18:
iPadOS18 has a more customizable home screen that helps the tablet really feel more unique to you For example, you can now freely place icons anywhere on the home screenThis is useful if the app does not want to cover certain parts of the wallpaper
To add more prosperity, you can add a specific color to the icon via the auto option that pairs the icon to the color on your wallpaper For example, if the wallpaper is mostly yellow, you can launch the coloring tool and select the yellow part of the background The icon takes that particular hue
If you like to write on iPad with Apple Pencil, I'm sure you will appreciate the smart script This new feature does a nice job of automatically cleaning up your handwriting in real time and maintaining your personal writing style This feature also highlights typos that can be corrected by rewriting a word or selecting the suggested spelling (which will be translated into handwriting style)
Smart scripts take things further by allowing you to add extra text in the middle of a paragraph The above paragraph will automatically adjust to fit in what you wrote This also works with pasted text that is converted to handwriting style
The calculator app for iPad is not a big version of the same app that's on top of the best iPhone and best Macbook This is because the new Math Notes feature allows you to use Apple Pencil smartly to provide more functionality to your app
You can write and type math problems in the calculator app and see them solved instantly by your own handwriting This is useful if you are studying math, doing budget, etc
The new graph feature is especially useful when working on more complex math problems With a simple tap, you can write and type equations or insert graphs You can also add multiple equations to the same graph to see how they are related Math Notes also works in the Notes app through the new Math Notes folder Writing Tools is my favorite iPadOS18 feature and an excellent usage of Apple Intelligence This is a great tool that can benefit both casual and serious writers
Writing instruments allow you to proofread, rewrite and change the tone of what you write For example, you can make the text familiar, professional, or concise If you do not like the changes you have made, you can press Undo
If you need inspiration, you can also use writing instruments For example, you can compare what you write with a revised version of a writing instrument to get an idea (or idea) that you may not have thought of In this way, you do not rely on tools to fix your work, but rather, you act as an editor where it provides advice
This is another ios1 feature that iPad users would like to utilize Now you can freely add and remove controls (such as volume controls and flashlight buttons) from the gallery, just like adding a widget to your home screen Controls can be placed on as many pages as you want
Having more control at your fingertips means you spend less time turning the page to find the app you need
New iPad OS18 features such as smart scripts and math notes make use of Apple Pencil wisely and feel tailor-made for your tablet This is good given that the iPad can sometimes feel like a huge iPhone that doesn't make calls or a MacBook with limited functionality (if connected to a Magic Keyboard)
Writing Tools is one of the largest features of Apple Intelligence currently available 1 However, the Image Playground (which can generate images with messages, notes and other apps) won't arrive until later this year That's why it's hard to make a final decision on Apple Intelligence STILL, I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT APPLE'S VERSION OF AI CAN DO
Even if Apple Intelligence isn't fully realized at the moment, iPadOS18 is a decent update overall
