Looking for a movie to watch this week, my go-to is Netflix's Top 10, but it often feels cobbled together Netflix's Top 10 is a handy guide to what's currently popular, but not necessarily the quality of content Some weeks the streaming service is dominated by animated films aimed primarily at younger viewers

However, if you dig a little deeper into the rankings, you will undoubtedly find some outstanding films worth your time After sifting through the list, we have selected three films that go beyond mere box office receipts and offer a substantial and engaging experience These selections are well worth adding to your watch list

One of the most underrated crime dramas made the Netflix Top 10 list The film is based on the true story of Frank Lucas, a heroin dealer in Harlem during the late 1960s and early 1970s Denzel Washington stars as Lucas, who imported heroin directly from Southeast Asia and built a drug empire

The story follows his rise and challenges from the law, most notably represented by Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) Roberts is a dedicated detective who tries to bring down Lucas and his organization American Gangster is an excellent representation of the impact drugs have on society and how far people will go for power and wealth”

The first recommendation has to be one of the best action thrillers of the year, and it's no surprise that it took first place on Netflix and didn't deserve to be beaten by a film like “Uglies” (yes, I'm angry about that) However, it is still #2, so if you've already seen it, I urge you to see it again

“Rebel Ridge” centers on Terry Richmond (played by the next big action star, Aaron Pierre), a man who comes to the small town of Shelby Springs to rescue his cousin and protect him from impending danger However, Terry's mission is foiled when corrupt local police authorities wrongfully seize his savings This confrontation leads him into a deadly struggle with Police Chief Sandy Byrne (Don Johnson) and the corrupt department that has a firm grip on the town

Despite receiving widespread critical acclaim for its smart storytelling and thrilling action, Edge of Tomorrow unfortunately did not perform well at the box office Frankly, this is still puzzling, given that Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are terrific and the film combines science fiction and action in the most satisfying way Regardless, it deserves to be in the top 10

The film is set in the future, when Earth is facing an invasion by powerful aliens Major William “Bill” Cage (Tom Cruise) is a soldier stuck in a time loop that repeats the same day every time he dies in battle With the help of famous soldier Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), Cage uses his abilities to defeat the aliens and save humanity
