Anker recalls several battery packs due to ignition hazard

Anker, a well-known manufacturer of cell phone chargers, has issued a recall of lithium-ion batteries used in several of its products due to a manufacturing defect that may cause them to catch fire

The affected products include the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K), Anker Power Bank, and Anker MagGo Power Bank

According to the company, the defective batteries can overheat to the point where plastic parts may melt or pose a risk of smoking or ignition

Anker claims that the defect only affects batches of batteries used in its products from January 3, 2024 to September 17, 2024 However, the company has issued a recall for everyone who purchased the affected products

To determine if your Anker Power Bank is one of the recalled products, check the bottom of the device and look for the following numbers: A1642/A1647/A1652 If any of these numbers are identified, please take immediate action

Anker's suggestion is this:

The serial number is located on the bottom of the battery and is a 16-digit number; according to Anker, if the serial number is not 16 digits, your device is safe Also, the serial number does not contain an “O” or an “I” to avoid confusion when checking the number

Never dispose of batteries in the trash or recycling due to fire hazard

Many places in the US have hazardous waste collection events or centers that accept electronics among other materials Some electronics stores offer disposal options Depending on the region, county libraries and collection sites have been designated

Check with local municipalities and fire departments for options
