I know all the plot twists, so I don't want to give too much away But it is only natural to mention the standout feature of The Menu, and that is its commitment to subtlety This dark thriller doesn't rely on flashy jump scares to get the audience's heart racing Instead, it rests on the brilliant Ralph Fiennes, who gives a chilling and flawless performance as Julian Slowik, the respected chef in charge of the kitchen

Fiennes is undeniably one of the most accomplished actors and really stands out in this film He knows how to be charming and menacing at the same time, enough to keep anyone on the edge of their seat As someone who loves horror and has seen my fair share of scary things, I enjoy movies that are not overtly scary, but rather unsettling

But another important element here is the dynamic between the two protagonists Tyler is intoxicated by the idea of dining at Slowik's table, while Margot embodies our every thought as we watch the story unfold Anja Taylor-Joy does an excellent job playing a character who feels trapped in a place where she should feel at home (considering she is surrounded by good food) It is she whom you empathize with the most, and she ultimately becomes the anchor of this intensely unpredictable thriller
