Today Apple released a new update exclusively for all four models in the new iPhone 16 lineup, including the iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max This update was discovered by Forbes and appears to be required only for the iPhone 16 model Earlier iPhones do not require the update
The update is very small and does not even have a new iOS 18 release number Apple notes, “This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max”
It goes on to state
However, it does not specify what exactly the security update fixes Nevertheless, with the iPhone 16 devices just getting into people's hands, Apple has been known to hold off on releasing such information until the update is widely installed If Apple explains the problem before it is fixed, it could leave iPhone owners vulnerable
Apple provides notes about security releases on its support website
If you have an iPhone 16, try to update it as soon as possible Additionally, last week Apple released a new update for all iPhones running iOS 18 that fixes 33 security vulnerabilities Many of them affect even the best iPhone core components, from Bluetooth to Control Center If exploited, they could be used to gain unauthorized access to data stored on an iPhone or even to completely take over a vulnerable device
Two of the flaws directly affected connectivity; for Bluetooth, another flaw (tracked as CVE-2024-44124) was exploited to allow malicious Bluetooth input devices (like one of the best wireless keyboards) to could be able to bypass the pairing requirements
If you are using one of the best iPhone VPN services, a kernel flaw (tracked as CVE-2024-44165) could lead to network traffic leaking outside the VPN tunnel
If you have not yet installed the update, please refer to Apple's security note
We recommend installing these updates as soon as possible to protect your iPhone and your data
