The iPhone 16 received a useful upgrade in iOS 181 beta 5

The iPhone 16 has been on the market for less than a week, but it has already seen some pretty useful upgrades iOS 181 Beta 5 has been released and adds many new upgrades and features, including a new selfie option for the Camera Control button (via 9to5Mac)

Currently, if you want to use the Camera Control button to control the iPhone 16's front-facing camera without the beta, you must interact with the phone's display - which defeats the purpose of having the button However, the new iOS 18 beta adds a new option to the camera control settings that allows you to use a swipe gesture on the button

This is very easy Tap the camera control button once in the camera app to activate the camera control interface and menu Next, swipe the new button sideways to scroll through the menu at the top of the screen to see an icon that looks like a person Tap it again to switch to the camera and open the selfie camera so you can take a picture of yourself

This is a pretty handy addition, but it is currently only available as part of the developer beta of iOS 181 Sadly, those running the vanilla version of iOS 18 or the public beta of iOS 181 will have to wait a bit longer for this additional feature to appear We just hope it doesn't take too long

iOS 181 Beta 5 has a lot more features than this one camera control option There are other tweaks and upgrades available for your iPhone

The first is two changes to the Control Center, adding dedicated connection toggles for Wi-Fi and VPN, plus a reset button to return to the default icon layout It will also be available to carriers

iPhone mirroring in macOS Sequoia 151 will allow users to drag and drop files between devices Anyone looking at the Notes app will notice a new “Writing Tools” button on the toolbar This means that you no longer need to highlight text and use the popover menu

On top of that, the Apple Watch icon has been changed so that there are no more buttons, there is a new shortcut action for opening the Control Center, and the Apple Intelligence icon appears in dark mode in the Settings app

As with the changes to the camera controls, these features are currently only available in the developer beta As an added bonus, compatible iPhones will have access to Apple Intelligence in the process
