I tried out the new open-ear earbuds from Nothing

It seems like a new earphone is released every day, and Nothing has already launched its third this year with a new concept designed for runners and athletes: the Nothing Ear, an open-ear type

As the name suggests, Nothing's new earbuds are open-ear earbuds, designed to fit around the ear but leave enough room in the ear canal to hear the sounds around you

The 142mm custom driver is second only to the 126mm custom driver in the Nothing Ear (stick) All the latest features are included in the new design, including pinch control, low-lag mode, and advanced EQ

Nothing claims that the new buds can be charged for up to 8 hours, and the included case can be charged for an additional 30 hours Both are also IP54 durable and can handle sweat and light puddlesThe Nothing Ear (convertible) will be available in the US, Canada, and the UK on October 1 for US$149 / C$199 / GBP129

There is something to be said for Nothing's bespoke design language and chic The new Nothing Ear (convertible), while not as transparent as its two predecessors released earlier this year, still looks the same and features a bulging metal tip at the tip of the ear flap for double comfort and stability

ANC may not be present in the Nothing Ear (open), but various features like Nothing's AI-enhanced Clear Voice technology are Like many of the best wireless earbuds, this new design brings back pinch control

True to its name, the Nothing Ear (open) also features open sound technology This is perfect for runners who face traffic and pedestrians during their morning sprints, and I must say that it worked quite well when I tried it myself

Open-ear earbuds are somewhat similar to bone-conduction headphones, literally using the bones in the wearer's face to transmit sound; the Nothing Ear (open-ear) is not in the best bone-conduction headphones category, but it is certainly in terms of total 8-hour charge and IP54 durability superior

While the fit is a bit awkward and somewhat loose, the Nothing Ear (open) did not fall out of my ears, as is often the case with alternative earphones like Samsung's Galaxy Buds 3 Pro The earbuds were securely fastened to the ear, and even though they were not fully seated in the ear canal, the music was crisp and punchy

We'll have to fully test these buds, but they may land on the list of best inexpensive wireless earbuds thanks to their $149 price That's the same price as the Nothing Ear released earlier this year and about $30 less than the newly announced Bose QuietComfort Buds

And like its predecessor, the Nothing Ear (open) will also include ChatGPT, further enhancing the AI-driven world of 2024 and beyond, as we did in our full review of the Nothing Ear (open) and its integration with the Nothing Ear ChatGPT For an in-depth look at AI's capabilities, see Tom's Guide

Pre-orders for Nothing Ear (open) begin today in Nothing stores It will be available in the US, Canada, and the UK on October 1, and in Europe on October 7
