With less than a week left in September, rumors are circulating that Nintendo will officially unveil its sequel game console, the Nintendo Switch 2, by the end of the month Whether or not the gaming heroes will reveal anything anytime soon, two leaks have emerged this week purporting to reveal images and a wealth of specs for the new console
The first one was found by CNET on the subreddit r/Gamingleaksandrumors There, a post claimed to have leaked a rendered image of Nintendo's next game console The rendered image depicts a console similar to the current Switch, but perhaps a bit larger
The Joy-Con controller appears to have some tweaks, including redesigned SR and SL buttons and different LED placement There also appears to be a second USB-C port on the top of the console, bolstering rumors that the Switch sequel will feature a second screen of some sort
Whether or not the images are real, a source told VGC that the rendered images are consistent with what those briefed by Nintendo have been told to expect
Otherwise, the Switch 2 is said to have an 8-inch display, an inch larger than the current OLED console and the 62-inch original This lends credence to the larger-looking console in the Reddit renderings
Another major report we saw this week was that chipmaker AMD has pitched Nintendo to use its APUs in the next-generation Switch
However, according to Youtuber Moore's Law is Dead, Nintendo has decided to stick with Nvidia again due to concerns about battery life; Eurogamer reports that the Switch 2 will use the Nvidia Tegra T239 processor to power the handheld
According to the content creator, AMD wanted a 15W handheld mode to provide “next-generation console-like performance on the go” However, Nintendo allegedly chose Nvidia because their processors had similar performance and better efficiency Nintendo also apparently did not want to include a huge battery, because “the battery is not as big as the battery in the Nvidia model, so it would have to be a huge battery
That doesn't mean the battery won't last longer; according to Moore's, the Switch 2 will have a 20 Wh battery, which should be 4-5 Wh more than the current OLED model
The battery life of the OLED Switch ranges from 45 to 9 hours, depending on the games you play; could we see a Switch 2 that goes from 6 to 12 hours? Hopefully
According to Moore's leak, Nintendo also wants to increase the performance of the console in docked mode, and we wonder how different the graphics and play will be in portable mode versus playing on a TV
Whether or not Nintendo reveals the console in the next week, we will have to wait until April 2025 to get our hands on it
