Motorola to launch new foldable this week?

The big problem with the best folding phones is that there aren't that many of them and the ones that are available are expensive; according to OnLeaks, Motorola will be announcing the Motorola Razr 50s later this week This foldable is priced at $699/£699, which is by far one of the cheapest foldables around However, it is unclear how this new device will stand out from the old one

According to Onleaks, the phone features a 69-inch folding display and a 36-inch cover display that can display the same 2640 x 1080 and 1056 x 1066 resolutions as the Razr 2024's screen It also appears to have a Dimensity 7300X chipset, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 4,200mAh battery

The camera situation is less clear, with OnLeaks only claiming that there will be 50MP and 32MP lenses; the 50MP lens is unchanged, but a 32MP lens with an ultrawide would be a noticeable upgrade over the Razr 2024's 13MP lens However, the previous model had a 32MP selfie camera, so if that's what this leak is referring to, it's probably nothing to get excited about

Even the dimensions, weight, and IPX8 water resistance are functionally identical to what Motorola offered in the Razr 2024 So what's going on?

It is possible that Motorola has additional features and upgrades available that are not reflected in the hardware specs However, one user of the X claims that this is a specialized version for the Japanese carrier Softbank, which uses “a rather odd set of LTE and 5G bands” This seems to require an entirely new cell phone variant with a completely different name

Fortunately, the Razr 50s, which has similar specs to the Motorola Razr 2024, should be just as affordable no matter what actually happens; OnLeaks claims that the phone will be unveiled on September 27
