Meta Connect 2024 has officially begun Mark Zuckerberg stood in front of the crowd (both at the event and via live streaming) to show off Meta's latest and greatest products, including the brand new Quest 3S virtual reality headset [As expected, the Quest 3S is a more affordable version of the Quest 3 and is available for pre-order today It is priced at $299 and will ship on October 15
Meta will launch a $299 headset with 128GB of storage For those who need more storage, there is a 256GB version for $399
The Quest 3S has slightly lower display resolution in both eyes than the more expensive model It is 1,832 x 1,920 per eye While not the highest-resolution headset on the market, the same pixel count offered by the Quest 2 will serve VR users well beyond 2020 The rumored pancake lens did not make it into the headset, which is great news
I used the Quest 2 for about six months and the image looked more than adequate, so I am not worried about the image quality of the Quest 3S based on the specs Of course, your eyes will need to adjust to the headset, but I am confident that the gaming and other experiences will be excellent
Also, following up on the rumors, Meta announced that the headset will include a controller and “Batman: Arkham Shadow” (also included with the more expensive Quest 3 headset)
This is a great addition for an already affordable device and should be a great gateway to other VR experiences for those who have not had much experience with this technology For more VR games, be sure to check out our list of best VR games
Is everything Meta has published enough to add the Quest 3S to our Best Virtual Reality Headsets list? We'll find out when we review it ourselves, but for value alone, this headset might make the cut
