As much as I'd like to get excited about Apple Intelligence, this just won't do

If you've seen this year's iPhone16 commercial, you'll be well aware that Apple Intelligence is one of the main focus of this year's device 1 Apple seems to have been caught up in the rising popularity of AI, and Apple Intelligence represents a chance to catch up with the likes of Google and Microsoft by jumping on the same bandwagon

Apple has been incredibly forceful in pushing Apple Intelligence with the iPhone16, you see, all four new models are problematic when people consider that such a camera control Apple Intelligence is only available to beta testers at the moment — but still some of the previously announced features are still available

So even if Apple tries to push the iPhone16 as an "Apple Intelligence machine," it's pretty hard to get really excited about that AI Because what is promised is not actually available yet So far, the iPhone16 feels as if Apple is not actually getting them out the door, but a promise of future wonders The main focus of the marketing of the IPhone16 seems to be that these phones are built for Apple Intelligence, and Apple seems to be doing a lot to try and hype the software suite towards the official release of Apple Intelligence

However, it is not known exactly when that public launch will take place A public beta version of iOS 181 was released earlier this month, giving non-developers the opportunity to try Apple AI for the first time But the closest to the official non-beta release window is "10 May""That could mean it's going to be as late as Monday or Halloween

Still, Apple has made it clear that some features will not be available immediately, saying, "It will come next year""As in the next 12 months — not before the end of 2024, in case there is confusion in that aspect

Genmoji is a good example of a feature not yet available in the iOS 181 beta Despite being highlighted in WWDC2024, Glowtime and Apple's iPhone16 commercials, there is no way to create your own custom emoji in the Messages app Apparently this feature won't arrive until ios182 launches early, which is hardly ideal Generating an Image Playground The same can be said about the integration of image generation and ChatGPT

The latter feature is considered to be the most important part of Apple Intelligence, as it provides iPhone users with the ability to use some kind of AI chatbot to assist with problems and queries, as well as the ability to analyze images and hold those conversations in real time In fact, the promised upgrade to Siri is the only one more important than ChatGPT, and there are some conversational upgrades on iOS 181beta, but up to iOS 184, yo

according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, features such as on-screen recognition, personal context, and deeper in-app controls will be the only ones that are more important than ChatGPT It will not be available on Siri until the spring of 2025

It's understandable why Apple pushes Apple Intelligence so strongly AI is a big deal, and while Apple's usual modus operandi is to dithering for years before trying anything in a new kind of market, it is clearly perceived that it can't afford to be left behind in the AI race So, what other big tech companies do is do: grand about what's coming, hoping that hype alone is enough to sustain it

The question is whether Apple can avoid the pitfalls that the rest of Silicon Valley is constantly stumbling about Above promises and below deliveries is what people like Elon Musk do best, and over time, it can erode public trust

Usually, Apple avoids this by keeping everything quiet, because it's hard to let people down if they don't tell them what they're working on

The problem is that it's impossible to determine what's not happening yet, and it's really hard to get excited about Apple Intelligence as a whole when you always use "coming soon" It's a good idea The hype so far, Apple is often the master of hooking people up with its products and services, but that makes sense because those products are usually immediately available so that people can experience what's on offer without having to wait weeks or months Linking Apple Intelligence naturally to the iphone16 has the potential to add uncertainty surrounding the future of Apple Intelligence to Apple's flagship product line After all, if you don't know what future software updates will include, you may be inclined to refrain from picking up that phone right awayEspecially if the attention surrounding unreleased features drown out the hype around the available upgrades on day one

Perhaps that's part of why the demand for iPhone16 is a bit softer than the iPhone15 Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo certainly seems to think that is the case, anyway

The iPhone16 lineup has a lot to like It has a powerful battery life, significantly improved performance, and the fact that some long-term upgrades have spread to other devices, including the Iphone16Pro's tetraprism lens and the iPhone16 action button, which include some of the best camera phones you can buy now It doesn't have to be

I'm not saying that Apple Intelligence doesn't have a lot of potential, but the potential is all we really have for now Not only is the available version of the software still in beta and officially unfinished, Apple has promised many things that won't arrive for months It is very difficult for me to care, let alone be excited, about something that is not here until undecided in the futureI can do something for me

but hi, at least, it will be possible to know the features Google Gemini Advanced-style paywalls may happen sometime, but at least it hasn't happened in a while yet
