October is the month that Apple Intelligence features go from beta to fully available However, not all of the promised AI-powered features will be available immediately Instead, Apple will employ staggered releases, with some features available immediately with the release of iOS 181, and the rest rolling out in updates throughout this year and into 2025
iOS 181 is currently in public beta, and Apple promised at last month's iPhone 16 launch that the full release, including Apple Intelligence, would happen in October thanks to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Genmoji, Image Playground, along with release windows for other long-awaited features, we now have a better idea of when that release will be ready in October
As a reminder, Apple Intelligence is limited to select models (iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max) Other iOS 18-compatible models can download updates such as iOS 181, but cannot perform Apple Intelligence functions Additionally, Apple Intelligence will be available in the iPadOS and macOS Sequoia updates that will be released simultaneously with Apple's iOS update
Other than confirming the October launch of Apple Intelligence, or at least a portion of Apple Intelligence, Apple has not released a timeline for AI deployment in hardware Instead, most of what we know comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who reported on Apple's rollout plans in a PowerOn newsletter published at the end of September
Gurman expects the full iOS 181 upgrade to exit public beta and land on phones on October 28 But don't get too excited, as some notable features won't arrive until iOS 182 or later, according to Gurman, echoing earlier reports on Apple Intelligence's rollout schedule
iOS 182 should add ChatGPT integration and introduce Genmoji, which uses AI to generate emoji based on text entered or based on someone in your photo library The update should also bring Image Playground, Apple's answer to Google's Pixel Studio, which uses AI to create images of itself and others
Apple is currently working on making iOS 182 “bug-free in early November,” Garman said If history stands, that means the release window should be sometime in December According to a recent MacRumors report, iOS 183 could also be updated before the holidays, but it is expected to be realistically minor and it is unclear if other Apple Intelligence features will be added
As for Apple's planned overhaul of its virtual assistant Siri, which promises to give users better context and personalized responses, don't expect it to be available until March 184 on iOS, Garman added
You can already test out Apple's new set of AI features by downloading the public beta of iOS 181 on compatible phones ahead of the full update's release on October 28 Upgrading to iOS 181 will allow you to
To enjoy Apple Intelligence, you need the best iPhone like the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or the latest iPhone 16 series
