Sure, the main Google Pixel 9 lineup just launched in August, but why not see the first images of the Pixel 9a, Google's budget Pixel smartphone line and some of the best budget phones available?
The leaked images come from Android Headlines, which teamed up with leakman OnLeaks, aka Steve Hemmerstoffer OnLeaks sourced CAD drawings of the new device and created renderings based on those drawings His work is usually fairly accurate to what is seen on new devices
These renderings show some changes between the Pixel 9a and the Pixel 8a As with the flagship Pixel 9, the most notable design change is the updated camera array
The Pixel 8a features an edge-to-edge silver bar array, but the Pixel 9a version has lost the bars and has only horizontally aligned cameras The camera appears to be at the same height as the phone
It appears to be the same camera as the Pixel 9 with an ultra-wide lens and main
Otherwise, the bezels appear to be quite thick, but it is not clear if they are the same size as the bezels on the 8a or smaller So far, the bezels are more prominent than on the Pixel 9, but this is no real surprise for a budget phone
Not much news has been found on the potential specs of the Pixel 9a other than some news about the processor; in early September, there were reports that the Pixel 9a would have the Tensor G4 chipset that powers the Pixel 9 However, the Pixel 9a may not have the Satellite SOS feature, as it may not have a Samsung Exynos 5400 modem
Surprisingly, the Pixel 9a will be one of the first Pixel devices to run Android 15; an OS update is scheduled to begin on October 15
Google typically launches its A-line in the spring, and this year's Pixel 8a was announced on May 7 during Google I/O A similar release schedule is expected for the Pixel 9a
