PlayStation Network is down - Sony confirms problem with PS5 and PS4 going offline

Update (10 am EST, Oct 1): The PlayStation status page reports that features such as “Account Management” and “PlayStation Store” are functioning properly However, some users are experiencing problems playing online on PS5 and PS4

PlayStation®Network is currently experiencing “some service issues,” reports Sony's PlayStation®Status page

The online platform Downdetector corroborates these problems: “Users are reporting problems with the PlayStation Network” Meanwhile, media outlets such as The Verge and VGC have also confirmed that the PSN is not operating as usual

The PlayStation status page states that all PlayStation platforms are affected, including the PS5 and PS4, as well as the PS3 and PS Vita legacy platforms and web-based applications including the PlayStation Store It is noted that all PlayStation platforms are affected These issues affect nearly every aspect of the network, from the ability to sign in to an account to playing games online on the PS5

Fortunately, Sony has confirmed that its retail arm, PlayStation Direct, is not affected However, some users will not be able to check out at the PlayStation Store

These problems do not appear to be widespread at this stage We have not been able to reproduce the problems that some users are experiencing At the time of this writing, I was able to sign in to my PlayStation account, browse the PlayStation Store, and participate in EA Sports FC 25 online matches without issue

The first reports of problems with the PlayStation®Network came eight hours ago at around 8 pm ET, and according to user reports, these problems appear to persist for now

Sony has not given any indication of when this issue will be fully resolved for all users, but has confirmed that it is working to restore access

“You may experience difficulty launching games, apps, or network features,” the company's service page explains in its latest update
