Runway, a leading artificial intelligence video generation company, has upgraded its Turbo model to include the ability to create vertical videos for sites like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok, and to add AI-based effects to existing clips Video-to-Video, which allows users to add AI-based effects to existing clips
Video-to-Video was launched two weeks ago with the standard Runway Gen-3 Alpha model, which takes much longer to generate clips, but is slightly better in terms of motion and visual effects
Turbo's advantage is its speed In my own testing, I was able to have clips created almost as fast as the length of the video In other words, we were able to create a 10-second video in just over 10 seconds
While we are still waiting for Turbo to come from text to video, the new update also brought some new features and functionality previously only available on the slower models
Runway is gradually adding new concepts and approaches to generating video, made possible thanks to the features we had in Gen-2 and changes in how Gen-3 works compared to previous generation models
The latest updates include clip extensions, lip-sync, and a new “edit time” feature that allows users to change the speed of clips, play them backwards, and trim only the best parts
The new feature that allows users to create vertical video content perfect for social media is exclusive to the Turbo model For some reason, this is not enabled on the Gen-3 Alpha
Overall, the new feature gives Runway much more control over the video it produces, including improving clip speed and allowing users to start from either a video or an image
Video-to-Video is a great way to generate exactly what you are looking for, as it adds layers and styles on top of your own work
Turbo's Video-to-Video is a bit hit or miss I gave it a short video of a toy card in action and it turned half my hand into a tiger, but it's not terrible, and with better prompting you can get some pretty impressive results
My favorite new feature is the time-related update Clips can now appear to go backwards when generated, but without having to load the video editor
Other impressive updates are the extensions In normal mode, extensions can take a long time and can differ from the original, making it a struggle to create what you expect
Rapid iteration makes a difference, with 10 different extensions in Turbo in the time it takes to make one extension in Alpha
