“You Are Next” is a home invasion horror film that revolves around the wealthy Davison family, who have gathered at a secluded vacation home for a reunion However, their celebration turns bloody when masked intruders armed with crossbows and machetes hunt the family down one by one Erin (Charni Vinson), the Davison family's son's girlfriend, also turns out to be more than just a victim

At first glance, “Your Turn Next” may seem like your average home invasion slasher film However, beneath the blood and brutality, there is a wicked sense of humor that sets it apart from the typical horror film The film plays out like a thrilling game of cat-and-mouse, but with a surprising twist

Certainly, there is no escaping the gore and the brutal kills - some of them brutal - but it is the creativity behind the kills that makes the film bloody and fun Instead, it offers moments that are at once gruesome and darkly amusing It's shocking and entertaining at the same time, a rare combination that makes you laugh in the middle of some pretty intense scenes

A large part of the reason “You Are Next” works so well is Erin She is not a helpless horror heroine, but a strong, resourceful, refreshingly competent woman As the night wears on, she plays with the killers in ways that are both satisfying and thrilling to watch I was rooting for her from the moment things went south and caring about her fate in a way that is unusual for a film of this genre Erin makes you want to see how it all ends

That said, I'm not the only one who had fun with this film You're Next has a high rating of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes (the average audience score is 60%, and I personally think it should be higher) Chris Nashawaty of Entertainment Weekly says: “From the title, one might be forgiven for thinking that director Adam Wingard's home invasion thriller would be just another bloody body count film But 'You're Next' is better than that Much better”
