Microsoft had its Apple M1 moment with Copilot+ PC, and now it returns with a host of new features in its fall Windows 11 update, dubbed 24H2
As my colleague Tony Polanco has detailed, not only is Copilot getting a complete overhaul, but there are some nice quality of life improvements to bring the rest of Windows up to the current standard of Qualcomm, AMD, and Intel chips There are; let's discuss some of the small (but important) changes that are being made apart from AI and how to get to the front of the queue to get them
This update lays the groundwork for the larger Copilot update that will be rolling out to “select devices and markets starting in November,” while 24H2 also brings some additional tweaks to the experience
These include an enhanced battery saver (very important, seeing as how the new chipset is steered toward better power management), Bluetooth LE audio, Wi-Fi 7, and HDR background support turning on HDR mode in Windows I'm not a fan of HDR mode in Windows, because it makes a lot of OS's feel super polished
Microsoft says it will roll out this update in phases, starting “over the next few weeks” In other words, all we can do now is prepare to get it the moment it becomes available
To do so, head to your PC settings and click on Windows update There, make sure you have turned on Get the latest updates as soon as they become available Doing so will guarantee you a spot at the front of the queue for your laptop You should emphasize this “for your laptop” bit because the timing of Microsoft updates changes based on the device you have
For example, the Copilot+ PC will likely get this update first, followed by other older systems
As for when the update will be available, Redmond staff will share the status of the rollout on the Windows Release Health Hub
