Fixes iPhone 16 Pro touchscreen freeze issue - Update now to iOS 1801

Apple has released iOS 1801, fixing several issues that iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro users began reporting after their launch last month Both models were plagued by a bug that caused the touchscreen to freeze under certain circumstances, much to the frustration of users

Additionally, iPhone 16 Pro users found that when recording in macro mode with the ultra-wide camera in 4K with HDR turned off, the camera would stop responding And finally, when replying to a message on a shared Apple Watch, users reported that the Messages app would sometimes close unexpectedly

All of these issues are fixed in the new update, which also reports general performance improvements due to memory allocation on certain iPhone models Therefore, even if you are not an iPhone 16 or 16 Pro owner, you should download and install this update immediately

Apple has not added any new features or animations with this update if you are new to iOS 18, here is a comprehensive list of all the new features available on the iPhone

The cause of the touchscreen bug has not been determined, but some users speculate it stems from the accidental touch detection system surrounding the new camera control buttons However, other users reported that the problem affected all areas of the screen, not just the area near the new buttons, and was instead the result of the phone's palm rejection technology to stop you from accidentally manipulating the touchscreen through your palm

Khaos Tian of Mastodon demonstrated a bug (see above) showing that when the iPhone 16 Pro's palm rejection is activated, the phone freezes and becomes completely unresponsive

Hopefully, this new update will permanently resolve this issue along with the iOS 1801 update, Apple also issued iPadOS 1801 and macOS Sequoia 1501, both of which fix the message-related issue

To install the latest update on your iPhone, open the Settings app, go to General, and click Software Update
