First USB4 20 Cable Officially Certified - Stunning Data Speeds

Nearly two years after the USB4 20 standard was born, compatible products are beginning to appear on the market

The updated standard is about to be inaugurated with a new cable from Elecom Elecom has announced the world's first USB4 20 officially certified cables

One has a transfer rate of 80 Gbps and a power supply of 60 W, while the other boosts the power supply to a massive 240 W at 48 V/5 A

Allegedly, these new cables will initially be sold only in Japan, but it is unclear if there are plans to expand to other markets Additionally, the cables will support DisplayPort pass-through up to 8K with 60Hz video output

The first generation USB4 is found on some top-of-the-line motherboards and devices and has a maximum transfer rate of 40 GBps Elecom cables reportedly double this transfer rate with impressive power delivery Currently, no motherboards or other devices natively support the updated standard

Microsoft has begun preparing Windows 11 for USB4 20 in some preview builds, but PCs will need to support PCI-Express 50 x4 bus connections to enable the higher throughput of the new generation of USB

The new standard is supposed to deliver up to 120 Gbps, but it may be some time before that level is reached, as they are still working on 80 Gbps level technology

Backward compatibility with older USB standards such as USB 4 10, USB 32, USB 20, and Thunderbolt 3 is being evaluated
