Replacing the battery in the iPhone 16 is even easier with this new tool

If you recently purchased a new iPhone 16, perhaps as part of the Prime Day sale, you'll be pleased to know that iFixit has a new tool to help you replace the battery

Apple has worked to make the iPhone 16 series easier to repair thanks to three design changes One of the most important is a new adhesive for the battery Previously, the battery was held in place by tape that was difficult to remove and could damage the phone if the user tried to force the battery out However, the battery in Apple's iPhone 16 series can be removed with a low-voltage current, making it much safer to remove the battery at home

But most homes won't have high-tech devices designed to deliver voltage iFixit is changing that with the VoltClip This tiny USB-C power tool delivers about 9 to 12 volts to aid in battery removal and can be purchased on iFixit's site for $1095 Apple has said that 30 volts will speed up the process, but iFixit said in a report by The Verge that it wants to keep things simple with the first device

In theory, one could buy (or borrow) a 9-volt battery and a battery clip to perform the same operation as this tool However, iFixit has revealed other uses for the device iFixit plans to ship the VoltClip with the iPhone 16 battery repair kit, but it will be some time before it is available

Being able to quickly repair the iPhone 16 is not the only reason to upgrade to Apple's latest model One of the most obvious is the eventual release of Apple Intelligence While it is true that many features will not be available until at least iOS 182, the recent iOS 18 update still released a number of features, including updates to apps such as Notes, Calander, and Maps The update also greatly improved home screen customization, not to mention improvements to the chip and camera on the iPhone 16 series

Apple's efforts to improve the repairability of the iPhone 16 were a pleasant surprise, and it is great to see a company working on creating new tools to do so iPhone 16 had some issues, but was still a fairly stable product launch Hopefully, we won't have to replace the battery anytime soon
