New rumors suggest that the OnePlus Open 2, a sequel to the best folding phone currently available, will launch early next year
Tipster Teme (@Rodent950) claims that both the Open 2 and the Oppo Find N5 on which the Open is based will arrive in the first quarter of next year This could be at any point between January and the end of March, so it is still too early to mark the calendar
A 2025 release for the OnePlus Open 2 has been rumored for some time, although it is not as specific as Teme's new claim
For those who may not know, OnePlus and Oppo have a partnership and share technology between their products Thus, the original OnePlus Open was based on the Oppo Find N3, and it makes sense that the next Open would be based on the Find N5 (skipping the N4 due to Chinese superstition regarding the number 4)
One potential problem with this intended release window is that the OnePlus 13 is also expected to be announced globally around that time, after being rumored to be announced in China by the end of the year Perhaps OnePlus will delay the new foldable for a month or two to give the 13 time in the spotlight, or launch both together
There is an even spicier second part to the Teme rumor-Oppo/OnePlus has apparently tested the flagship quad camera array on the upcoming Find X8 Ultra with the new foldable Sadly, this test did not seem to yield the results the company was hoping for, and the Open 2/ Find N5 now uses three rear cameras like the original Open/Find N3
If these next-generation fodables do not have the camera upgrade, we will be disappointed However, having four rear cameras sounds like it will make these phones much larger and much more expensive, so perhaps it is still best that the cameras remain modest
The OnePlus Open has been on the market for almost a year now, but thanks to its thin body and wide display inside and out, plus the Open Canvas multitasking software, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold It remains at the top of our Best Foldable Phones page because it is much easier to work between apps than rival foldable phones The OnePlus Open Apex Edition recently launched with new colors and more RAM, but it has been almost a year since the OnePlus Open was released And it sounds like it could be nearly a year and a half before the sequel arrives
It's too bad there's still time to wait, but the OnePus Open 2 is said to get a nice upgrade: a possible 6,000mAh battery, which for any phone, much less a foldable phone with limited internal space, is It is a big deal Other notable features include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, a 50MP main camera, the addition of IP-grade water resistance, and the return of the classic OnePlus alert slider
