[The Borderlands] film was doomed from the start. If trying to adapt the video game series, famous for its over-the-top, vulgar humor, to a PG-13 rating wasn't enough, the long period of production in limbo and a trailer full of pop culture mumbo-jumbo had it all set before it even hit theaters.

Still, as a fan of the game, I have a morbid curiosity to see what a colleague called in his review of “Borderlands” a “ridiculous throwback” to the god-awful video game movies of yesteryear. (This was before such outstanding projects as Max's “The Last Of Us,” Netflix's “Arcane” and Prime Video's “Fallout” TV series took us by surprise.)
