Samsung recalls over 1 million electric ranges due to fire hazard.

Samsung has announced a recall of more than one million sliding electric ranges. The affected ranges have been “involved in approximately 250 fires” since 2013, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall announced by both CSPC and Samsung covers 30 models of sliding electric ranges (not including one of the best electric ranges on the market) sold between 2013 and 2024, ranging in price from $1,250 to $3,050.

According to the CSPC and Samsung releases, the knobs on the front can be accidentally activated by pets or people, posing a fire hazard, especially if combustible materials are placed on the range.

See the CSPC release for a full list of affected models.

The term recall is not correct because neither Samsung nor the CSPC is asking people to return the ranges to stores or Samsung. Instead, Samsung is offering customers free knob locks and covers for some models.

Apparently, over the past decade, Samsung has apparently received more than 300 reports of people or pets “unintentionally activating” through the front-mounted knob. [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...]
