Google Gemini can now initiate Google Assistant routines

Google Gemini finally allows users to activate Google Assistant routines through apps However, there are still some limitations

When the Gemini Android app launched in February, many users were upset that the Google Assistant routine did not work However, this feature has finally been restored in a new update, and Google Gemini now allows users to set up routines from the app

Routines allow users to perform multiple tasks with a single command For example, saying “Good morning” to the Google Assistant can display the time, the weather for that day, and the events on the calendar for that morning

Accessing this feature is very easy: head to “Gemini Settings,” then to the “Google Assistant Features in Gemini” menu, and finally to the “Routines” tab On my Galaxy Z Fold 5, it took quite a while for the app to show a response to the routine I had set up, but I was able to build a routine from the menu and use it

While it is great that this feature is finally on the Google Gemini, there are some things users should be aware of First, not all routine launches and actions are supported by the Gemini app Second, users cannot launch routines with typed commands, scheduled times, location-based launches, or home screen shortcuts Finally, actions such as playing music, sharing fitness data, or reading poetry are not currently supported

Google Gemini was never the best AI option, losing out to OpenAI's ChatGPT However, the newly announced Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold all heavily feature the Gemini Nano to power a wealth of new AI features, and the Pro models all feature the more powerful Gemini Advanced and the new Gemini Live feature Combined with improvements to the current Gemini app routines, a new era of Google's AI may be dawning

The introduction of routine support will be good news for many Android users and another blow to Apple, which has struggled to bring the Apple Intelligence base model to its devices It will also help Google fight off Samsung and its Galaxy AI capabilities
