Longtime users of Google's Pixel phone may know that the phone has its fair share of problems The modem, in particular, is also something people tend to complain about, thanks to its poor efficiency and performance A modem that drains limited battery life and makes calls sound terrible in the process is the last thing you need
The good news is that the Pixel 9 series has taken a step toward solving this problem; as discovered by Android Authority, the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold all feature new modems Presumably the Pixel 9 Pro will also have one, but the site could not personally confirm its specific specifications
The biggest upgrade to the 5400 modem is the addition of Release 17 connectivity to the Pixel 9, which will drive new satellite connectivity capabilities However, as Android Authority points out, Samsung has also confirmed that this model is much more efficient than the older Exynos modem
Given that battery life has consistently been one of the biggest drawbacks of the Pixel series, anything that can keep the phone running longer can only be a good thing In the past, the modem was not the only culprit, but it has received a lot of flak
The 5400 also promises faster download speeds, from 10 Gbps up to 1479 Gbps and utilizing the FR1 frequency band In other words, the Pixel 9 series should offer faster, more efficient, and improved connectivity compared to older Pixel phones
Of course, we won't know for sure until the Pixel 9 actually launches After all, it is quite possible that the new modem will not actually have the impact that Samsung might have us believe But if we test the phones thoroughly in the lab and in the real world, we should be able to see just how much of a difference the new modems will make
