Since both the Mini and Plus-branded iPhones have sold poorly, Apple is reportedly working on a fourth device, the thinnest iPhone yet
This ultra-thin smartphone, dubbed the “iPhone 17 Slim” as a placeholder name, could eventually become the “iPhone Air” to tie in with Apple's trend-setting thin MacBook and iPad lines
Since it is early days for the phone, there are not too many rumors to go on yet That said, here is what we know so far about the iPhone 17 Slim
It is very easy to predict the release date of the iPhone; all of Apple's smartphones in the past decade have been released in September (with the exception of the iPhone 12, which was released in October thanks to the Coronavirus) Therefore, unless the iPhone 17 Slim is postponed to 2026 or disappears altogether, it is certain to appear in September 2025
Pricing is more difficult to gauge; it is rumored to replace the iPhone “Plus” model, but starting at $899 for the iPhone 15 Plus is wishful thinking
Apparently, it is possible that a device could cost more than the Pro Max, which currently starts at $1,199 That would make the regular iPhone 17 by far the cheapest option in the absence of a Mini or Plus model
Decent pictures
As noted above, the iPhone 17 Slim is said to have a single 48MP camera
It is inevitably less flexible than the three lenses on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but that does not necessarily mean it is bad Early Google Pixel devices were among the best camera phones you could buy with even a single lens, and the onboard image processing proved to be a great help
Even if it is unlikely to be a photographer's choice when upgrade time approaches, we expect the iPhone 17 Slim to deliver equally solid photos in bright and dark locations
Ample storage
If the iPhone 17 Slim is as expensive as early rumors suggest, Apple is not going to skimp on onboard storage
The cheapest iPhone 15 Pro Max still comes with 256GB of storage, and if this is indeed going to be the most expensive device Apple has ever released, it simply won't be enough
Of course, if the theoretical iPhone 17 Slim starts with 512GB of storage at an astronomically high price point, people might ask why a cheaper 256GB version is not available Therefore, this may not be so likely after all
