Apple to Launch First Foldable Phone in 2026 - After Launch of Foldable iPad

We've heard rumors of Apple's foldable devices for years now, but so far none have actually materialized. So when will we see an iPhone Flip or a foldable iPad? According to one new report, we could have two foldable devices by 2026.

This is according to analyst Jeff Pu (via 9to5Mac), who claims that both of these devices will be available sometime in 2026. Apparently, an iPad/Mac hybrid could be the first, and is expected to appear in the second quarter of that year. This would be between April and June, consistent with the recent iPad launch schedule, which includes the launch of the 2024 model.

The foldable iPhone, on the other hand, will likely arrive later this year, but the report does not specify when. If I had to guess, that device will likely appear in September, along with other late-year products like the iPhone 18 and the Apple Watch.

Pu does not mention any other details about what these two devices will look like, but we have been hearing rumors over the past few months about the possibility of an Apple folderable. We've also heard reports that Apple has partnered with Samsung Display to produce a foldable display, and there is speculation that a 20" or larger foldable Macbook is being planned.

It was not clear whether that larger foldable would be released along with or instead of the foldable iPhone Flip. However, judging from Pu's latest report, it appears that both will be announced within a fairly short period of time.

Unfortunately, it is unclear how much these devices will cost or how easy they will be to obtain; iPhones and Macs are already quite expensive, and whatever the price of the existing foldable, if anything, you can expect to pay will only get higher. As the slow uptake of the Apple Vision Pro shows, charging a premium is not the best way to get people to buy your product.

That should be common sense, but let's hope Apple learns its lesson and tamps down the price tag a bit: like VR, the best folding phones have never been much loved by mainstream consumers. And the higher the price, the less people want to pick it up.
