Sony beats LG and Samsung to become "King of OLED" in 2024 TV Shootout

Sony was crowned "King of OLED" at the 2024 TV Shootout.

The event, sponsored by Value Electronics and now in its 20th year, featured six televisions in two different formats. Sony's A95L QD-OLED and Bravia 9 were crowned OLED and LCD champions, respectively.

Most of the TVs were released in 2024, with the exception of Sony's 2023 A95L QD-OLED. This list includes Sony's new Bravia 9 Mini-LED TV, Samsung's S95D, and LG's G4 OLED TV.

Sony also won the "King of LCD" award. Samsung and LG took second and third place, respectively, while Hisense and TCL did not participate in the event, and Philips and Panasonic TVs are not sold in the US.

The annual TV Shootout, sponsored by Value Electronics, once again found a champion. This is because Sony won awards in both categories, making its name not only the "King of LCDs" but also the "King of OLEDs."

Sony was no different from last year as it won over its main rivals, the Samsung S95C and LG G3 OLED. Below is the full list of OLED and mini-LED TVs entered in the 2024 TV Shootout:

The LG G4 OLED and Samsung S95D are considerable competitors. However, even Samsung's new anti-glare matte coating and LG's upgraded MLA panel did little to sway the judges.

The Samsung S95D was not far behind, at 8.8 to the LG G4's 8.4. Sony and Samsung were also close in the mini-LED TV competition, with the QN95D registering 8.0 versus 8.1 for the newly introduced Sony Bravia 9. It is quite surprising that both LG TVs lagged behind these competitors, coming in third in both categories, but it makes sense considering Sony's new secret weapon this year It makes sense when you think about it.
