The new weather app for the Pixel 9 is available as an unofficial early download for devices running Android 14
Android Authority originally shared how to sideload the new weather app through APKmirror Users can download the APK file and install it on their Android 14 device, but should be aware that this is an unfinished version of the app with some bugs For example, if your device crashes, you may need to clear your phone's cache to resolve the issue
Originally, the new weather app was bundled with the clock app However, this is no longer the case as downloading the current version of the APK creates a dedicated app and makes checking the weather more streamlined
The new app features an updated UI, with rounded elements for all information, but otherwise features the same details as Google's old weather widget Users do not need to sign in to their Google account to use the new app, but signing in will sync saved locations across devices
The new weather app looks pretty simple now, but may soon get smarter9to5 A recent report from Google also revealed that the "Weather" app may soon offer rain and weather notifications, Dylan Roussel to X, posted that the app may get weather maps and AI weather summaries
There is no doubt that the Google Pixel 9 series has seen many leaks ahead of its supposed release next week For example, it was recently revealed that the phone will allow users to upgrade their storage at no additional cost when they pre-order There are also reports that the Pixel 9 will be able to record and transcribe calls However, there are also troubling rumors about how much less of an upgrade the Tensor G4 chip will be compared to the Tensor G3
While the possibility of trying out new apps is always interesting, it should be noted that these are rarely the finished versions of the final apps In other words, they come with a number of bugs and problems that are (hopefully) not present in the finished product Therefore, for the best experience, it is better to wait for the official release
