iPad Air and iPad Mini Displays to Get Major Upgrade - But There's More to It

Once you see the OLED display on the M4 iPad Pro, there's no going back to the LCD displays on Apple's lower-end tablets.

But just as Dynamic Island has made the transition from the iPhone 14 Pro to the standard iPhone 15, and as action buttons are expected to appear on all iPhone 16s, the Cupertino staff is expected to bring this gorgeous display technology appears to be coming to more and more products.

The only problem is that we will have to wait a while: as reported by The Elec, the iPad Air and iPad Mini may have OLED displays by 2026. This is much earlier than the earlier report of 2028, but it will still be quite a wait.

To aid in this transition, the report claims that Apple may be relying on Samsung for the supply of OLED panels. Given that Samsung's technology usually features the best-looking display technology, this gives us enough confidence that we will see something great - especially on the iPad Mini.

But let's face it, we shouldn't expect the kind of advanced goodies we see on the iPad Pro's tandem OLED screen. Apple likes to differentiate standard and Pro devices by display specs, and the difference between the Air/Mini and Pro iPads will probably be split along these lines.

That would be a single-layer screen without the same level of brightness and contrast, and (presumably) a 60Hz refresh rate over the iPad Pro's 120Hz. But it's not all bad news, as OLEDs, even in their most basic implementation, are a feast for the eyes.

So don't expect to see these in the upcoming new iPad announcement, which leakers are predicting will take place in October.
