Both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 support Gemini Nano, making them the first foldable phones to do so.

Gemini Nano is a lightweight version of Google's generative AI designed to work on cell phones. The AI debuted on the Google Pixel 8 Pro in 2023, but was eventually ported to the Galaxy S24 and released in developer preview on the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8a.

A recent report from Android Authority revealed that both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 will be the first foldable phones with AI capabilities powered by the Gemini Nano, and Google continues to add support for the devices It appears that they are. While initial speculation tends to suggest that the Google Gemini will be used to power some of the Galaxy's AI features, it appears the opposite is true: Android Authority tested features such as chat assist, note assist, and transcription assist. and found that everything worked offline, even if the Gemini Nano model was not downloaded.

However, we do have some idea of which features are powered by Google's AI: the first is Magic Compose, a feature in Google Messages that suggests replies to users that they can send to their contacts. To ensure privacy, Magic Compose runs entirely on devices with Gemini Nano installed, and while Google does not list the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or Z Flip 6 models on the relevant support pages, this feature is present on these models.

Currently, there does not seem to be much that Gemini can do on these devices. For one thing, the lack of a Pixel Recorder app means that the summary feature on the devices is not available; neither phone has access to Gboard's Smart Reply feature, even though it is supported by the Gemini Nano. Although it may be limited, the Gemini Nano could have a more significant impact on third-party apps. For example, Adobe Acrobat and Grammarly use Gemini Nano to summarize documents and provide grammar suggestions on the device.

It will take time for this change to bear fruit as both Samsung and Google are developing new ways to implement Gemini Nano on their devices.
