Hulu Adds Some Big Shows and Movies This August With summer winding down and fall yet to begin, you wouldn't think that August would be a prime month for hot shows and movies to hit the streaming service. But with one of the year's biggest films, several Hulu original shows, and one of last year's hottest movies playing on the film festival circuit, there is a lot to like this month.

Topping this month's list of shows is "Only Murderers in the Building" Season 4, starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, which has been a huge hit on Hulu and will premiere Season 4 later this month.

In the top movies of the month, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" is clearly the big hit. The latest in the "Planet of the Apes" reboot series, the film dominated the box office in May and finally made its streaming debut.

But if those movies aren't enough for you, don't worry, here are all the best shows and movies to watch on Hulu in August.

The tenth film in the "Planet of the Apes" franchise and the fourth in the reboot series that began with 2011's "Planet of the Apes: New Century," takes us into the future. The film is set several generations after Caesar came to power in the previous film, in a world where apes are the dominant species.

But when a young ape named Noah (Owen Teague) befriends a human scavenger named May (Freya Allan), that order could be shattered when the two become entangled in the plans of the ape king Proximus Caesar, and either the apes are established as the dominant species or all could be plunged into chaos.

Premieres August 2 on Hulu

Season 3 of this Hulu hit show just received 21 Emmy nominations, and season 4 looks to be just as good. The podcast show follows the trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mable (Selena Gomez) as they leave New York and head to Hollywood to investigate the shocking events at the end of Season 3. The show becomes a film about the subject matter.

And in true Hollywood fashion, Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building will feature a stellar guest cast. Meryl Streep will reprise her role as Loretta Durkin, and new additions include Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Melissa McCarthy, Molly Shannon, and Kumail Nanjiani. Don't miss the season premiere later this month.

Premieres August 27 on Hulu

"Rick and Morty" may get more attention as a Justin Roland production, but "Solar Opposites" is a sleeper hit on Hulu. After Roland's departure, Dan Stevens voiced Corvo, the leader of the alien Shrollopians sent to colonize Earth, in Season 4.

Of course, they have yet to colonize Earth, and I don't expect them to accomplish that feat in Season 5. Instead, expect more Shrollopian antics, more chaos at the "Wall," and more Silver Cop. Will these three storylines come together in Season 5? Probably not, since "Solar Opposites" has already been confirmed for Season 6, but it will be fun to watch just in case.

Premieres August 12 on Hulu

I can't pretend to have seen "Dance Moms." Or that I know anything about the show other than the dancers and their mothers. But I don't live under a rock, so I do know that the show was a huge hit and people couldn't get enough.

Hulu's Dance Moms: A New Era is a reboot of this popular reality show. This time around, there are new coaches and new dancers, but with tons of "mommy drama." New coach Glo Hampton is determined to take her students and her prestigious dance school, Studio Blue, to the next level, but only if the moms don't sabotage her efforts. The entire first season will be available this month, so don't miss it.

Premieres August 7 on Hulu

This August, plan to watch La Chimera. Josh O'Connor (most recently in "Challengers") plays British archaeologist Arthur in this comedy-drama that follows his return to Italy after he is arrested for trying to sell stolen art. Once in Italy, however, it didn't take long for Arthur to return to grave robbing.

Although this comedic drama did not become a box office smash like Planet of the Apes, La Chimera became a festival darling in 2023. At the Cannes Film Festival, director and screenwriter Alice Rohrwacher won the AFCAE Art House Cinema Award and was nominated for the Palme d'Or. Movie buffs won't want to miss this film coming to Hulu this month.
