We have heard rumors of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim for some time, and there was speculation that it would be extremely thin. However, new rumors suggest that this may not be the case.

Korean site The Elec reports that the Z Fold 6 Slim will be thinner, but will measure about 11.5 mm when folded. For reference, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 12.1 mm when closed. This is basically nothing.

What is Samsung doing to make the Z Fold 6 Slim worthy of its name? Especially since, as Elec magazine points out, it will be thicker than many of its rival Chinese companies' foldable phones (many of which are 9-10 mm thick).

One way Samsung is said to shave thickness is to remove the S Pen feature, and the digitizer layer of the display that powers it; the Z Fold 6's digitizer is said to be about 0.3 mm thick, and removing it would reduce the thickness expected from the Z Fold 6 Slim by half of the thickness can be shaved off.

The Elec also reports that Samsung may apply thinner internal materials to shave off the remaining 0.3mm. However, these components are going to be expensive, which means there probably won't be a big price drop compared to the flagship Z Fold 6. After the news that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE has been canceled, this was unexpected.

It is also worth noting that the Z Fold 6 Slim is said to be larger, with the internal display reaching about 8 inches, which may give Samsung a little more room to squeeze in components. However, it is clear that this will not be enough to bring about a meaningful change in the thickness of the phone.

What's crazy about this story is that many rumors claim that the Z Fold 6 Slim may get a limited release. This is not a very positive image for the company, given that the Chinese folding device already offers a thinner design than what Samsung is reportedly offering.
